I Enjoyed Every Minute

“I improved my speed and – most importantly – had the confidence I needed to take the training to the marathon course.”

“I joined Russeau Racing in the summer of 2021 to prepare for the London marathon that was scheduled for April 2022.  I was 57 and stopped running more than a decade ago (I was never very good at it) because of chronic knee pain.  I wanted to run the marathon without hitting the wall or being immobilized by the effort.  It’s an intimidating endeavor for a non-athlete and I wanted some confidence in my ability to complete it.  Kaylin (with help from Alex) was wonderful and took me as I was, meaning she did not have great raw material to work with.  She emphasized the importance of recovery and cross training and the mental piece of long distance running.  It was not just about the miles or the pace.  The marathon was moved to October and I was a year older by then.  Over the course of the 15 months I trained with Russeau Running, I had no injuries, resolved the issues with my knee (Kaylin provided daily exercises that did the trick), improved my speed and – most importantly – had the confidence I needed to take the training to the marathon course.  It was a wonderful run and I enjoyed every minute of the five-plus hours of my race.  I am not going to run another marathon, but will start training with Russeau Racing again in the spring for some half marathons.  In the meantime, I will run when I want to, because I can, thanks to Kaylin’s coaching.  I ran 8 miles this morning, on a beautiful sunny fall day, and it felt great.”   – Kate in Ann Arbor
